General Business: Melvin advised members that the Committee had decided to begin to dispose of some of the Branch Library. Most members spoke on this move.Melvin advised members that he and Fred had discussions with the Matthew Flinders Bicentenary Queensland 1999 organisation re the possibility of a joint venture of a medal for the visit to SE Queensland of the replica “Norfolk”. They are to meet with this organisation on the 18th March to obtain further details before a decision is to be made on any further involvement.

E.B.: Displayed approx 20 world aluminium coins – from Austria to Spain. Also Shell token of Charles Lindbergh Flight – 1927. Recent acquisition – The Simpson Medal, 36mm dia. Commissioned by Injured Persons Assoc of Aust in honour of Simpson KIA Gallipoli 1915. The medal is finished in gold with raised centre of Simpson and his donkey surrounded by laurel leaves which in turn are surrounded by the words Doled (Pain), Plagatus (Wounded), Officium (Duty), Damnum (Loss or Injury). The reverse has the words Wounded or injured in the Service of their Country. The ribbon is a rich purple with blood red stripes. The medal is available to eligible Australian and Allied personnel.
B.V.: To compliment his paper, Ben displayed over 40 world aluminium coins from Austria 1947 50 Groschen to Vietnam 1953 10 Su. In addition on display was a 1990 1 oz .999 Palladium 25 Roubles from Russia ( USSR- Soviet Union).

D.W.: Car 1914/7 Queensland Gives Her Best 1914 alum? (unlisted in this metal); a copy of the “Coins” book written by Gilbert Hyde, produced by Dave Raymond and mentioned by Tom H. in the latest issue of The Report. Quiz: Because of time restraints, the quiz prepared by G.S. was not held this month but is to be held over for a suitable occasion.

Members’ Forum: Members were very pleased to have received their special NAA publication “Convict Love Tokens” during the month. Graham advised members that there was a coin fair at the Sandgate Town Hall on Sunday 28th February.1998 Coffs Harbour Convention photographs supplied by Rod S. were distributed to the appropriate members.
