9 members attended in The Resource Centre, Newstead House, Breakfast Creek Road, Newstead, Brisbane.

Meeting Topic: Militaria.

General Business: Flinders Bicentenary Medal - President Melvin advised members that  he & Prof Pearn had attended AJ Parkes with a design for the commemorative medal. This design had been prepared by George Snelgrove and will be generally adopted. This design was tabled for members to view. Initially, only 100 pewter have been ordered. Apparently Parkes have a 3 month production lead time on new dies. A current programme of events for the Flinders Bicentenary in Queensland was also available for viewing. Melvin reminded all members of the Combined ANS/QNS Open Day to be held in the Resource Centre on Monday 3rd May - Labour Day Holiday. A participants medal will be issued for all those who prepare a display.1999 Annual Dinner has been booked for the 6th November at the Yeronga Services RSL Club.Colin had available a quantity of free badges from Greater London Council Works for Women Save It for attending members.

Displays: -C.T.: Collection of various military items including buttons, badges for ARP, ANZAC, Women’s Land Army, Women’s Emergency Legion badges, 1916 Australia Day, Repatriation Day State War Council; 1917 German 50 F Kriegsgeld Stadt Elberfeld coin.  Recent acquisition – 1882 – 1982 Ayr Centenary medal featuring John Drysdale.
B.B.: Impressive collection of numismatic items of one mans achievements throughout his life including WWI Military Medal & Trio, NSW Railways Ambulance Corp fobs For Efficiency, Aust Tramway Employees badge etc. A great quantity paper work & documents accompanied this collection. Recent acquisitions – badges for SA Cheer-Up Service with 4 struck stars; ABC Optimists League Advance Australia by GA Miller; Y-Teen blue triangle over maroon world by Bertram; group of 6 fobs to one recipient for Bris Dist Football Assoc circa 1920 including 3 for the Tristram Shield.
M.M.: 1st Day Covers including coins for 1999 Year of The Older Persons and Bass & Flinders; Aust Post 2000 Olympics folder containing Aust 1956 penny.George Snelgrove: Pair of war medals Steinaecker’s Horse South Africa ( Boer War) & WW I  52nd Batt AIF with Certificate of Discharge and relevant badges. Recent acquisitions – another ceremonial trowel used by Major General Kingsley Norris CB CBE DSO ED MD QHP to  Lay the Foundation Stone of Memorial Hall Holy Trinity Church Kensington May 15th  1955; books of 11d & 1 / 2 d  tickets for Ryde Bus Service; alum confirmation medal; various fobs and sporting badges incl Townsville Tennis Assoc; rowing buckle as per the illustration on the last Downie Auction Catalogue cover.
C.G.: Craig spoke on recent trip to the south, his finds and his impressions of the Portland area and the museum in the old water tower with a lookout. This museum has historical and military items on display. Displayed 1942 Liberty Loan 4 Subscriber tin badge; 1937 Victorian commemorative medalets. Recent acquisitions – new gold finish 1980 Canberra Telecom Tower token.
M.W.: Commemorative medals Welcome to American Fleet/ Aust Celebrations Car 1908/11; Car 1913/5 First Visit of Commem Fleet; Car 1924/2 Aust Welcomes British Naval Squadron; In Commemoration of the American Fleet’s Visit to the Dominion of New Zealand Morel 204. Recent acquisitions -  Australian Defence Dept book on Aust Prisoners of War.
F.S.: Group of 5 medals to FJE Gilbert R N – WW 1 trio, Geo VI Coronation Medal, Geo V Long Service Good Conduct; also Queen Vic LSGC (Navy), Geo V LSGC ( Navy), Geo V Royal Fleet Reserve LSGC; commemorative medal Allies entry into Naples 1st Oct 1943. Recent acquisitions – Aust Car 1888/4 Cook Centenary Commem 36 x 36 mm; Car 1924/2 British Naval  Visit; Car 1925/1 1925 American Visit.
J.C.: Recent acquisitions – various enamel badges incl group of Qld suburban, town and city bowls clubs, CASC enamel badge( Commercial Amateur Swimming Club); 1965 Qld Assoc. Bread Mfrs of Aust & NZ; QWBBA Brisbane Day; various Tattersalls Ladies & Racing Club annual passes.

Members’ Forum: Melvin advised that the current issue of Centrelink Newsletter had an advertisement for the RAM on ANZAC Commemorative coins. Colin advised of someone having a WWI including a sword available. Fred advised that the SBS have shown a series on the Vikings.
