The Australian Numismatic Society

Meeting 969. 9th November, 1998.

Attendance: There were 12 members and 2 visitors present.

General Business and Interests:
1: Reminder of subscriptions given to those who haven't yet paid.
2: NAA Fair is to be held on the 21/22nd  November 1998 at the Grace Hotel, cnr King &
York Streets, Sydney. Volunteers for our ANS table are always welcome!
3: Next meeting is the Christmas social and displays.

Forum: Auction
A total of 74 lots were catalogued with estimates for the second, and final auction  of
1998. A record in recent years of $790.00 was realised, of which the society retains ten
percent commission. Some spirited bidding was noted for some of the jewels on offer!
The society's appreciation goes to C. P. who catalogued the lots and acted as
auctioneer for the evening.

Recent Acquisitions on the Table.

D. M. - USA - 1877 Indian Head 1 cent, larger than life as a novelty copper belt buckle.
This unique item was obtained recently in the USA (where else).

D. S. - AUSTRALIA - Medals - No. 16 Transport Trust Inspector, also a medal

T. H. - PAPUA NEW GUINEA - Badges - Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary
Bag (but not finished) also a neck badge VILLAGE CONST. MAGISTRATE
USA - Token - Havelock Tobacco Lucky Piece with 1903 Indian Head Cent in centre.

M. L.- AUSTRALIA - medal commemorating the opening of the Sydney Stock
Exchange. Royal Assurance - Mr & Mrs G Urqhart, Chair, Sydney Stock Exchange

R.S. - USA - Bi-metallic tokens. Trade token catalogue of US and suppliers. A
selection of 14 different bi-metallic trade tokens were displayed.

R. B. - AUSTRALIA - Sydney Opera House 25th anniversary token. The Sydney
Opera House has recently celebrated in November, 1998.

J V. - AUSTRALIA - Olympic pins/badges, with a newspaper article
highlighting the  rising values reported for these items. A number of 24 month (two years
to go) were distributed.
